MEXICO CITY, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Santiago Homenchenko converted a 102nd-minute penalty as Queretaro edged to a 3-2 home win over Tigres UANL in Mexico's Liga MX on Saturday.
The hosts raced to a 2-0 lead after early goals from Ali Avila and Mateo Coronel but Rodrigo Aguirre and Juan Brunetta struck either side of halftime to draw Tigres level.
The game looked headed for a stalemate before Homenchenko held his nerve from the spot after Diego Reyes was brought down by Francisco Reyes.
Queretaro is now second in the standings with six points from three outings, five ahead of 16th-placed Tigres.
In other Liga MX fixtures on Saturday, Monterrey won 2-0 away to Atlas and Leon prevailed 1-0 at home to Pachuca. ■
