TIANJIN, May 18 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition of 180 sets of Egyptian antiquities opened on Saturday in north China's Tianjin municipality.

The display, held at the municipal museum, features precious Egyptian artifacts collected by seven Italian museums, including the National Archaeological Museum of Florence and the National Archaeological Museum of Venice.

The exhibition presents the ancient Egyptians' life along the Nile, and their religions, offering the audience a glimpse into the ancient civilization.

"The ancient Egyptian civilization has left mankind rich cultural heritages, such as its mythology, written languages and pyramids," said Qian Ling, deputy curator of the Tianjin Museum.

Human mummies, crocodile and cat mummies, painted gold-plated mummy boxes, scarab-shaped artifacts, painted tombstones and painted human coffins of priests from the Temple of Thebes are on the display.

"Thanks to the exhibition, Chinese visitors can have a better understanding of the ancient civilization, the unique role of divinities in their culture and their unique understanding of reincarnation," said Qian.

The exhibition in Tianjin will continue until August 18. After that, the relics will be exhibited in the eastern province of Jiangsu and southern Guangdong Province.
