MADRID, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Spain is planning to focus on exploring ways on third-party market cooperation with China during the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) to be held in Beijing, Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell has said.

"Spain is especially interested in exploring ways of collaboration in third-party markets," he told Xinhua in a recent interview.

"In this international event we hope that our companies have the chance to make contact with Chinese companies and other countries that are interested in finding synergies in third-party markets," he noted.

The Spanish foreign minister will travel to Beijing to attend the April 25-27 forum, reaffirming Madrid's "positive attitude" toward the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by China in 2013.

"Spain has always had a positive view of the Belt and Road Initiative. We were present at the first forum," he said, adding, "We also participate in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as a founding member. Our attitude has been and continues to be positive."

Borrell added that he believes there are much to be done in the Spain-China cooperation.

"Its full potential has not yet been achieved and we must continue working. The economic and business presence of Spain in China is below its potential," he said.

Spain will "maintain the momentum given to our relations with the visit of President Xi Jinping in November last year, strengthening mutual investments, promoting business exchanges and the formation of joint ventures," noted the foreign minister.

Borrell expressed the hope for a meeting between the delegations from the two sides during the upcoming forum in Beijing, saying "a bilateral meeting with the Chinese authorities is always welcome and I have no doubt it will help to improve our understanding of the initiative."

According to him, the Belt and Road as an international cooperation platform to promote common development could work in harmony with Europe.
