BEIRUT, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The visiting UN deputy chief said on Monday that the United Nations supports Lebanon's call for the establishment of an Arab bank for reconstruction and development, according to the website of the Lebanese presidency.

"The UN is supportive for the creation of such a bank which would help reconstruction efforts in countries that have witnessed military actions in the past years," Amina Mohammed, UN deputy secretary-general, said during her meeting with Lebanese President Aoun in the capital Beirut.

The suggestion can be summited to the UN Economic and Social Commission for West Asia for its support in the implementation of the project, she added.

Earlier this year, Lebanese President Michel Aoun called for establishing an Arab bank for reconstruction and development at the fourth Arab Economic and Social Development summit in Beirut, saying it would help all Arab states and people overcome their crises, and contribute to the sustainable economic growth.
