LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Warner Bros.' "Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" took the top spot at the North American box office in its opening weekend with an estimated 35 million U.S. dollars.

The animated adventure comedy film is a direct sequel to 2014's "The Lego Movie." Directed by Mike Mitchell, the film features an all-star voice cast including Chris Pratt, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman and Will Arnett. It's the fourth film in the franchise, following the release of two spin-offs in 2017, "The Lego Batman Movie" and "The Lego Ninjago Movie."

"Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. The battle to defeat invaders and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical.

Paramount's romantic fantasy comedy film "What Men Want" opened in second place with an estimated 19 million dollars, according to studio figures collected by measurement firm Comscore.

The film is a loose remake of the 2000's film "What Women Want" which collected a global total of 374 million dollars. Directed by Adam Shankman and starring Taraji P. Henson and Aldis Hodge among others, the film follows a female sports agent who gains the ability to hear men's thoughts after drinking a mysterious concoction given by a shaman.

Another newcomer, Lionsgate's black comedy action film "Cold Pursuit" landed in third place with an estimated 10.8 million. Directed by Hans Petter Moland and starring Liam Neeson, Laura Dern, Emmy Rossum, William Forsythe, and Tom Bateman, the film tells the story of a snowplow operator who sets out for revenge on a local drug cartel following the murder of his son.

STX's comedy film "The Upside" came in fourth with an estimated 7.22 million dollars in its fifth weekend for a North American total of 85.8 million dollars. Directed by Neil Burger, "The Upside" is a remake of 2011's French film "The Intouchables." The plot follows a paralyzed billionaire who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a recently paroled convict whom he hires to take care of him.

Universal's superhero thriller film "Glass" finished fifth with an estimated 6.42 million dollars in its fourth weekend, pushing its North American total to 98.47 million dollars. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis and James McAvoy among others, the film is the final title in Shyamalan's trilogy as a sequel to 2000's "Unbreakable" and 2016's "Split."
