RABAT, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Morocco will restore compulsory military service in September, a government spokesman said Thursday.

The two chambers of the Moroccan parliament voted with an overwhelming majority to adopt the draft bill reinstating a 12-month compulsory military service for young people aged between 19 and 25 years old, said Mustapha El Khalfi.

The first batch of people to join the compulsory military service will include 10,000 young men and women, he added.

The compulsory military service was lifted in 2006.
