DHAKA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Two members of a banned militant outfit were killed on Friday in a raid launched by Bangladesh's anti-crime elite force RAB on a militant hideout in the country's southeastern Chattogram district, an official said.

The militants of the banned Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were killed in a suicide explosion in the house where they were hiding, RAB spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan told journalists.

He said RAB personnel surrounded the house, suspecting it was a militant hideout early Friday.

The suspected militants inside exploded a huge bomb as the law enforcers asked them to surrender, he added.

Law enforcers also recovered three pistols, an AK 22 rifle, raw materials for making grenades and huge amount of explosives from the house.

In the wake of the deadly cafe attack on July 1, 2016, Bangladesh has conducted a series of large-scale operations against militants.

Neo-JMB, an offshoot of JMB, has been blamed for the attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery, in which 22 people, mostly foreigners, were killed.
