WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- More than one person was killed and at least 14 wounded in a school shooting on Wednesday in the U.S. state of Florida, according to local authorities.

Broward County Superintendent Robert Runcie said he can confirm there have been "fatalities" in the shooting, while Florida Senator Bill Nelson told the press that there are "many deaths" in the shooting.

The shooting took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, just north of Miami. The school said the incident took place as the school was dismissing students.

The Police have reportedly captured the suspect about 1.6 kilometers from the school, and previous reports cited local police as saying a student of the school was identified as the suspected shooter.

Students interviewed at the scene described the suspect as a "troubled kid."

Runcie confirmed there was no evidence of a second shooter in the school.

"My prayers and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible Florida shooting. No child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an American school," U.S. President Donald Trump said.

This is the fourth shooting at a middle school so far in 2018.
